Nursing Management for Patients on CAPD


Abstract
During last 5 years the number of patients on CAPD have increased in many countries, and CAPD is accepted as an alternative or optional modalities of treatment for patients with end-stage renal disease as regular hemodialysis and renal transplantation. The role of specially trained nurses is getting important to achieve the success of CAPD program in cooperation with nephrologist.
Also the purpose of nursing is participating in the prevention of complications including peritonitis, the individual¢¥s psychosocial support and the maximization of social rehabilitation.
To achieve the effective educational program, - regular CAPD patient group meeting and individual home record must be done, and these ma-3r be helpful for better self-care and the follow-uP,.
To fulfill above-mentioned aims, the role of specially trained nurse is very important. In this article, the role of dialysis-unit nurses for teach¢¥ ing techniques of CAPD including intraperitoneal insulin administration for diabetics on CAPD was discussed. And the importance of emotional care for CAPD patients and cooperation with dietician and nephrologists were briefly summarized.
